Intersting links to artists.

Well, my good ol’ site is still not up, but I hope to see if I can rescue the database and back it up this weekend.

Until then I thought it would be good to post some interesting links to artists and comics stuff. It will be 2010 soon and there is no time like the present.

Becky Dreistadt is an amazing talent. She does the web comic Tiny Kitten Teeth and was able to use the website kickstarter.com to raise money for a new project. Check out her amazing hand painted work. I met Becky and her writer in a bar during the San Diego Comic Con in 2008 and then followed her work on Deviant Art. (sample below)

Artist James Gurney, the author of Dinotopia has a blog full of amazing information on the process of traditional painted illustrations. So much great info for any type of artist. His new book looks great.

Sam Hiti has posted on his blog notes on how he is creating his new web comic Death-Day.

My friend and peer Alexis E. Fajardo has posted his favorite comics of 2009. Check it out HERE.

Well, there is some cool places to visit here on the ol’ internet. I will hopefully post my end of the year thoughts tomorrow.

Rooting Tooting Pinoccho – part 1

This is a comic I created last month at the Cartoon Art Museum during a comic jam (CAM JAM 2 on 8/16/09) and at the San Francisco Zine Fest (8-22/23-09).

The challenge: draw a mini comic that I could experiment and play around with without worrying about consistency and style.

When I polled my friends on Facebook and Twitter to find out what format they would prefer, most asked for the comic to be posted all at once. I wanted it to last a few days so my final decision was to break down the comics into a few big chunks. This is the first one.

Please comment and let me know what you think. I find it encouraging to get feedback and it makes me want to post more comics and art for you folks.

The CAM needs artist for the Sketch-A-Thon at the SDCC09

Hey all, I will be in San Diego for the Comic-Con this summer working with the Cartoon Art Museum again. If you are an artist and are at the con and want to help out….

The Cartoon Art Museum Sketch-A-Thon at San Diego Comic-Con needs your help!

San Diego Comic-Con International is fast approaching, and the Cartoon Art Museum needs your help! In order to raise funds and raise awareness of the Cartoon Art Museum, we’ll be hosting our second annual Sketch-A-Thon at this year’s Comic-Con.

We’re looking for artists to sit at our table for one-hour sessions, drawing sketches for Comic-Con attendees in exchange for donations to the Cartoon Art Museum. Past guest artists included Alison Bechdel, Tom Beland, Daryl Cagle, Rick Geary, Derek Kirk Kim, Keith Knight, Batton Lash, Steve Lieber and Eric Powell, among others, and we’re hoping to put together another all-star line-up for this year. This year’s guest list already includes Marvel Comics artist & letterer Rick Parker, mini-comics creator Karen Luk and underground comix legend Bobby London, with more surprises to come.

Artists of all shapes, sizes and skill levels are welcome, so please don’t be intimidated by the list that I’ve posted. We’re hoping to have one veteran artist and one up-and-comer at the table at all times, which will allow the younger artists to learn from the older ones (and vice versa).

We set a new fundraising record at last year’s Comic-Con, and we’re hoping to top that total this year.

Thanks very much for your consideration. If you’re able to give some of your time at this year’s Comic-Con, please send me an e-mail and I’ll fill you in on the details and start working out a schedule. If you’ll be on-site but unable to leave your table and you’d still like to contribute a sketch or a signed book, please let me know and I’ll add you to our sign-up list.

Best,

Andrew Farago

Thanks to my Wondercon friends.

Today was the service for my father, a very emotional day. But I was surprised and delighted to be given this card that was signed by many of my friends at Wondercon 2009. I was there Friday, but my father was fading away Saturday and I canceled coming to the convention. I asked Topher and Jonelle of Tomatoe.TV ([link]) to leave a note that I would be gone and this was the result. When my cousin Ken gave it to me today it brought tears to my eyes.

So, a big thank you to: the Grays, Jonelle, Kat, Jim S, Rena, Scott, Patrick, Dave, Jaime, Dale and Cindy.

Thanks to my Wondercon 2009 friends.
