Saturday, June 7th Schulz Museum in lovely Santa Rosa CA to promote my summer animation class. You can find me in the education room creating animation by way of Zoetrope and Stop Motion. Admission to the museum is FREE all day.

Come sample some of our summer class activities and meet our instructors. Learn about manga, create your own cartoons, and enjoy hands-on art projects throughout the day.

July 24-27, 2008 San Diego Comic-Con (the biggie!) You can find me at the Cartoon Art Museum booth through out the convention.

• Cartoon Boot Camp - Summer Cartooning Class
- Dates in June/July/August at the Cartoon Art Museum, San Francisco CA

It’s time for our third year of our Summer Cartooning Classes for Intermediate level art students ages 10-14. Young artist will enjoy week-long classes that allow them to learn and improve their cartooning skills.

Ages: Intermediate level artists from 10-14 years old.
Time: 12 pm to 2 pm each day the class is in session
Number of students: The class size is limited to no more than 10 students. The class is filled on a first come, first served basis.
Cost*: $100 for CAM members, $125 non-members - per student. Classes must be paid in full to secure a seat in the class.
Supplies: Basic Drawing Materials will be provided. Students are welcome to bring in their personal sketchbooks and materials, however.

June 16 - 20, 2008 - CARTOON BOOT CAMP: Character Creation
Cartoonist Brian Kolm (Beyond the Great Chimney, www.atomicbearpress.com) leads an intimate group of students on a weeklong journey from concept through design of an original cartoon character. The class covers drawing 3-D shapes, combining the shapes to give a character depth, poses and attitude, costume, etc. The class ends with each child presenting his or her artwork in a show-and-tell session.

June 23 - 27, 2008 - CARTOON BOOT CAMP: Comic Design and Layout
Cartoonist Brian Kolm (Beyond the Great Chimney, www.atomicbearpress.com) leads an intimate group of students on a weeklong look at designing comics. The class covers design and balance, from thumbnails to final storyboard, creating multiple panel comics, inking, shading and rendering. Each student will complete their own final short comic.

July 14 - 18, 2008 - CARTOON BOOT CAMP: Flip book to Animation
Students will enjoy a week of learning how animation is created. Beginning with Flip books and Zoetrope’s to creating Animation using Stop Motion and other methods. Each student will make their own zoetrope machine and create a finished animation.

August 11 - 14, 2008 CARTOON BOOT CAMP one-day basic training workshops
NEW for 2008! As young artist get ready to go back to school they can end summer with these fun single day workshops on subjects that they will love. August 11 – Rendering in watercolors, August 12 – Intro to Manga Drawing, August 13 – Fantasy Settings and Perspective, August 14 – Drawing the Human Head, August 15 – Writing for Comics

• Summer Cartooning Class: STOP and GO at the Schulz Museum

Learn the basics of stop-motion animation and make your own animated film by the end of the week. Students will experiment with stop-motion and hand-drawn animation, flip books and zoetropes, as well as other methods. Taught by professional artist Brian Kolm.
