Kid Beowulf #1 (brand spanking new edition) IS HERE!

Alexis E. Fajardo’s new edition of his classic graphic novel Kid Beowulf#1 is out today! Here it is.

It looks great with a full cover (colored by yours truly), and crisp black and white art inside. You can order it now through the website if you want it in time for Christmas or Hanukkah. OR even better, visit your local comic book store and ask for it by name. It is available through the major comic distributor, Diamond. Its a lot of fun for kids and adults.

My day in SF

The weather in San Francisco was perfect. Not warm, not cool, just right to walk around without a coat, but not too hot if you were wearing one.

The Salvation Army did their Holiday drive kick off with THUNDER, the Golden State Warriors mascot on hand.

My friend Richard treated me to lunch, mmmmmmmmmm good.

TMBG "Bastard" video

Just posted today at TMBG.com is a new music video from the Venue album. It features some fantastic 2D drawn animation. From the newsletter:

This week’s new streaming video is one of the excellent bonus tracks off of the Venue Songs DVD – Bastard Wants to Hit Me with visuals from Laika House. Laika is producing the new Coraline film (directed by in-house genius Henry Selick) that TMBG will be creating songs for, and this video is a glimpse into their visual power. TMBG soundman and cineaste Brian Speiser has decreed this video “Awesome.” In our limited world travels we have found there is no higher praise possible for a video clip than that. We invite you to check it out.

Sincerely
John F., TMBG

All I can say is the video shows how great 2D drawn animation can be. And TMBG doing songs for a movie, wow. Check it out. Just click the button that says “Bastard”

NOTE: Laika used to be the Will Vinton studio before he was kicked out and the name was changed. There other projects are mostly CGI, but this video could hold the promise of some other styles as well.

Update 12-6-05

After an exciting weekend of teaching and learning, I spent last night taking the 55 rough pages and scanning them in. They where then placed in InDesign in the right order.

It’s amazing how much you catch your errors when you “read it out loud.” Just like catching a spelling or grammatical error when reading out loud, putting together a mock book will help spell out what needs to be changed.

For me of course its more like an animation story reel. I will slowly bring in freshly altered story pages, and then replace the final roughs with the final scanned in art .

One thing that I learned this weekend is the important is how much better meeting with other artist and appreciators live can help build up energy for your project more then any blog, website or even a phone call can provide; the energy some how travels from one person to another.

Drawings of Me

I went out to dinner with friends on Sunday. While we were waiting for our sushi, TJ Basa spent the time sketching me. Here is the first drawing; it looks just like me:

This one is very cool; it is drawn on a napkin with a chopstick with the end burned by the candle on the table.

A link from Planet Lar

Larry Young was nice enough to link to me today from his site: AIT/Plantet Lar, based on my comments to the talk he was part of at the Cartoon Art Museum (last Thursday). Here is the post he is refer too.

Thanks Mr. Young. I can’t express enough how helpful you book, TRUE FACTS, has been to helping me to take the next steps for my graphic novel.

Happy Birthday

This weekend I had two great experiences. I taught cartooning classes at two birthday parties at the Cartoon Art Museum. Both parties were fun and I hope the guests had a great time.

Here is a sketch I did in prep for one of the class:

I am available to teach art/cartooning at all types of parties: Birthdays, Holiday Parties, Charity Events, and many others too.

Visit the Cartoon Art Museum for more information: link
