Another daily drawing, this is the third of the year (the letter C). I hope to post my daily drawing on the day I create it, but I am aware that is not always possible, but I will try to keep current as much as possible. C is for Ms. Carrot.

New Art! – Sketch Tuesday Superhero

111 Minna Sketch Tuesdays March 2012 - Superhero

This is one of my favorite pieces I created at 111 Minna gallery and club in San Francisco for the Sketch Tuesday artist event on 3/21/12. The event allows artist to make art on the spot and place it for sale for patrons visiting the space. The art is black acrylic ink and watercolor on watercolor paper.

I started with some light blue pencil lines, then etc on wet ink, then loosely painted the figures with broad watercolor strokes and finished with some more ink. Fun!

SDCC 2011 part 2B – CAM Sketch-A-Thon July 21 Wednesday

So here is the second chunk of photos from the first day of the Cartoon Art Museum Sketch-a-Thon at the San Diego Comic-Con 2011. We were doing a fundraiser to help the museum by having artist rotate ever hour and create original art pieces for donation of $10 or more. As you can tell that most folks got their money’s worth.

New Art: Zorro

Out of the night,
When the full moon is bright,
Comes the horseman known as Zorro.
This bold renegade
Carves a “Z” with his blade,
A “Z” that stands for Zorro.

Zorro, Zorro, the fox so cunning and free,
Zorro, Zorro, who makes the sign of the Z.

New Years Eve 2010 character design

Last night, New Years Eve 2010 (Dec 31, 2009) I spent the night crawling from location to location drawing with my friends Jeff Plotkins (Here on DA>http://emperornortonii.deviantart.com/), Toni, and Rick Lucy. We started with Dinner in Japan Town San Francisco and then walked up Filmore Street going from…the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf until it closed…then to Dino’s Pizza till they closed…then to Johnny Rockets…and then walking to the Embarcadero to watch the fireworks. It was a blast.

After lots of random doodling I started to do a character evolution. It is an exercises where you start with a character, sometime based on a pre-existing element. Then you set a goal of how many steps you want to take. Each step you mix in elements of another character, theme, etc. Pretty soon you start to just mix it up from your own mind till you get to the end with what should be a fairly unique character. Hopefully. Click for a bigger image.

Fan Art Sunday

Ulysse 31 was a cartoon TV show that appeared on Nickelodeon in the 1980′s. I never really saw much of the show as a kid since only my Grandmother and one of the neighbors had cable TV. The dubbing is pretty bad, but the design and animation holds up fine. It’s great that the 60′s, 70′s and 80′s had styling that holds well as fantasy. The story of Ulysse 31 follows the tale of the classic epic hero, but changing the setting to outer space. The show is in the rare category, but you can see the episodes on YouTube thanks to someone who taped them back in the day and keeping all this time. Click for a bigger image.

Chord Cat is a character by my friend John Cowan. He’s a cat that fights against annoying noises like Cel Phones, Growling Dogs, Honking Horns, etc. I decided to portray the hero as a spandex clothed mystery man, but the original is probably an actual cat-man. Click for a bigger image.
