Well, I am just about to start dinner and thought it would be a good time to update how its going on this experiment.
NOTE: Possible minor story spoilers ahead.
I have been working to tighten the pencils on this page below. I find that if things are too vague on the ‘pencils’ it can be hit and miss if I can ‘ink’ them properly.
I worked on the perspective on page 19b some more, adding the figures in, and a background for the top right panel. (above and below)
But after a point I had to go and gather all my reference folders (pic below) to help with some details on these pages. I have a folder for every character that has appeared in the comic so far; that’s issue #1, #2, and the anthology story. I also have reference to characters that we might see in the future such as Victor Grassroot’s parents.
IMPORTANT LESSON FOR TODAY: Put things where they belong, so you can find them later.
For the scene on the middle photo below, I needed to find my reference for the Boarding houes’ living room, and could not, so I decided to move on to another page.
IMPORTANT LESSON FOR TODAY 2: When stuck, try to remedy it, but don’t spend too much time stuck, go on to something else…like another page.
So I am working on page 20a now. This page is a transition from Victor’s kidnapped Uncle and his lady friend, trapped in the pendent…to the villain plotting something big on a glowing map…to Wendell outside, confused and sad…to the outside of the building. The next shot at the bottom is Kate and Sir Tugert outside the same building.
It’s fun, since I get a chance to set up the local. Something I did not get to do as much, before I extended the length of the book to 32 pages (from 24). When it’s done, it will be a grand Art Deco skyscraper. The pattern going down the front has a double use: to connect the illustration of the top (bottom right of top photo below) to the illustration of the bottom (at the bottom of the photo below)
Lots of work to do, but I am getting my scrawny drawing muscles back into shape, after a winters nap. I will post again tonight after 10pm.
