Last Minute Halloween Decorations

As I sat at home with my bowl of Wonka brand Halloween candy (the best kind), I felt the house was a bit naked. I had forgotten about the ol’ pumpkin and I didn’t feel like going out to get one. So I made my own decorations. Here’s what I did:

DECALS

I used a special Decal Paper that runs through an Ink Jet Printer to add some spooky images onto the glass areas of the lamps outside the house.

First of all you need to prepare some art on your computer to be printed out. I like to use Photoshop.

Now the artwork for the decal should not be subtle, it just does not work that well. In the image above the pumpkin with the black outline showed up the best.

Also, the instructions tell you to flip the image, this is needed ONLY IF THE DECALS WILL BE PLACED ON THE INSIDE OF THE WINDOW AND VIEWED FROM THE OTHER SIDE. Mine where placed the other way, so my flipped art was backwards.

After the image has been printed on the correct side of the paper, you can cut out your designs and then carefully peel the image off. A little area will possibly get bunged up since it is hard to peel the paper back.

Now all you have to do is stick the design on your glass surface. As you can see that the image was too light, and did not stand out as much as I wanted.

Here is a bad photo taken at night. Once again. You want some really dark areas, like Black in your image.

Next I quickly made some Ghost to hand outside. I drew a face on a sheet of paper in my sketchbook in pencil, then scanned it into Photoshop and up the contrast so it could be seen. I also did this so this inexpensive decoration could be thrown away if I choused too with little fear of not having another one next year.

I printed out the ghosts face on card stock and colored the eyes with a highlighter pen. I then cut a piece of white grocery produce bag and taped it to the back of the cardboard. I then shredded it a bit and hung it from a taped on grocery twisted.

I also created two ghost cats. Here is one of them. I did the same process as above, but I used Photoshop to color the lines blue and to make the eyes green. It was after this one that I felt the guys needed something more. So I used a piece of florescent printer paper folded in half to cut out a hat and bow tie. He was hung on a tree by a twisted as well.

Here is the human ghost with a pirate hat and southern cornel sanders style bowtie.
To finish the spookiness off I made a mix CD from material I own.

So HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
