more…Asterix and the Vikings movie

One of the few exciting 2D(cel) animation projects in the works is the Canadian/French film based on the international favorite Asterix. It seems the future of 2D animation lies in Europe and Asia, not the US. But with a modern world of communication, we can find out about it faster then ever before.

First off the trailer, in french, HERE (quicktime required)

Animator Dan Lund did some 3D effects work on it and has some model and promo images on his site: http://www.danlund.dk/index2.htm. He lives and works in Copenhagen.

It will be produced by A-Film in Copenhagen. Proboly where Mr. Lund worked. Here is the blurb on their website:

Asterix and the Vikings

A. Film A/S and French production company M6 has joint forces and have initiated production of the animated feature “Asterix and the Vikings”, based on the famous comicbook of the same name, created by legendary Albert Uderzo and René Goscinny. Planned for a worldwide release in 2006 and with a budget of 22 mill. Euro, the film is going to be the largest classical animated feature production in Europe to date.

It is interesting to note that the film will orginate in English with an American/Canadian/British cast. Then it will be dubed in other languges.

and of course there is the official Asterix site: http://www.asterix.com/

Here is a report on the creator of Asterix visiting the studio: http://gb.obelix.com.fr/missives/lettre18.html
