Miyazaki’s Ponyo

The Conversations on (studio) Ghibli blog has video clips of Miyazaki working on concepts for his next film Ponyo on a Cliff (Gake no Ue no Ponyo). Hayao Miyazaki is of course the amazing director of films like Laputa, Howl’s Moving Castle, Sprited Away, Valley of the Wind and many more.

Blogger Daniel Thomas explains:

Just recently, Japanese network NHK aired a special episode of its series, “Professional.” For three months last summer, a director and camera followed Hayao Miyazaki around the Ghibli studio as he was beginning the production of the next movie. This footage marked the official debut of Ponyo on a Cliff (Gake no Ue no Ponyo) to the Japanese public.

You have to see this excellent footage of Miyazaki drawing and painting. Wow! NOTE: There are many more clips at the above link.

I’ve seen “Spirited Away” but did not like it very much. It was the ending. I think a friend has “Howl’s Moving Castle.” I’ll see if I can borrow it and that is any better.

Thanks a lot for mentioning the Ghibli blog. Glad to see you drop by. Don’t forget to throw your hat in the ring for this month’s birthday contest. Not that I’m desperately promoting myself or anything. ;)

Rosemerry, You should visit Daniel’s blog (he’s posted below yours) to see the whole body of work of Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli.

For me I love most of his films. They are a bit slower but seem more dramatic and beautiful.

    Daniel,

I will enter your contest if I have time.

Thanks for posting 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother (Marco) 1 (1/3) on YouTube. It’s amazing to see Miyazaki’s style all ready there. The layouts and settings are amazing.

Is the animation at the beginning and end from the movie remake in the 1990’s. The opening clip is obviously using some CGI for the water and boat. The end clip looks like the same designs but with better quality filming and color.
