Animated vs. Live Action

There is going to be a new live action version of the popular manga and anime series Dragon Ball Z. I have never been a big fan of the show, but it seems sad that they can start with intersting source material and make a pertty generic looking movie. What do you guys think?

New movie trailer for Dragon Ball – Evolution:

Animated Movie (in Japaneses):

I live action movie looks to “dark and edgy” vs. the fun and colorful series. This seems to be a common thing, to make a movie based on source material and then make it feel like there is no connection.

The Mesopotamians – They Might Be Giants music video

I love the High-Tech/Low-Tech of this video that features animated charcoal drawings (or a digital simulation) what I am guessing was done in my old software friend after effects. Very cool.

‘War Horse’ ‘Nemo’ stage puppets

Pretty amazing life like stylize horse puppets for the British National Theater play War Horse. I think it is so cool that puppets are used on stage more often. The puppets are by Hand-Spring Puppet Company. At Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida they have a slick musical show based on PIXAR’s Finding Nemo. The gal who performs Dori is really funny.

First Look: Kid Beowulf: Bards Tale teaser trailer

When I taught at the Schulz Museum two weeks ago I was lucky enough to be able to stay nearby with my fellow artist Alexis Fajardo. I had helped Alexis create a trailer for his first graphic novel, and we collaborated together to create one for his upcoming Graphic Novel Kid Beowulf: Bards Tale. It was lots of fun to see how fast we could come up with a sneak peek at the novel.

This was created in two nites using Adobe After Effects and Photoshop.

The player above contains all of the Kid Beowulf work I have done.

Tin Tin and the Lake of Sharks

I just found this on YouTube. It’s a Tin-Tin animated feature from the 1970′s, the Lake of Sharks. I really like a lot of the animation and backgrounds, but I wish the voice where more like the series on HBO from the early 1990.

In ENGLISH
Tintin is sent to guard Professor Calculus, who has invented a machine that can duplicate anything, and is staying in a village near the border of Syldavia and Bodouria. Rastapopoulous, an infamous and ruthless international criminal, tries to lure Calculus and Tintin away by kidnapping two children, who live nearby, in order to get his clutches on the machine.

Dancing Superheros

Makes me smile and laugh.

This was created with the online site PICTAPS.
Ultraman(s) is/are the only superhero(s) who can really get away with dancing I think.
