One of the character creation assignments I did in my class this week was to do some brain-storming to come up with a character idea. Since I want to practice what I preach, I created a character too.
My key words I finally picked were: Pirate, Magical, and Robot
I then thought about reference that would fit in with those key words. Pirate stuff is easy. Magical was thinking of someone like Dr. Strange (marvel) with that cool collar on his cloak and for android I was thinking of characters like the Red Tornado (DC) and the Vision (Marvel).
I played around till it began to move beyond what I had seen before…
Its so great that as your playing around with what the character is like, a story begins to form.
Captain Sea-Buckle is a magical construct created by a dark wizard. Sea-Buckle is filled with evil magic that drives him to do terrible things. The wizard used his creation to grab power, but something went wrong and the construct gained true sentient state and a change of heart. Establishing himself as a mysterious pirate, Captain Sea-Buckle travels the ocean and land trying to stop the wizard and to erase the evil in himself. The heart scar that lies on his chest shows his progress on redemption.
