Sketch 6-21-06 BTGC prop/setting

I am trying hard to get to work, but when it comes to my own personal projects I find it hard to take the leap to putting the hundreds of drawings together into the final story. But a friend was nice enough to “kick me in the arse,” which I need, and so I am trying to make the final choices of how-when-why-and how my story will be seen. These sketches are part of story in chapter one. A rock where someone could meet a group.

I really like the sketches, they came out really well. They were also fun to draw.

Sketch 6-21-06

There are just some sketches I did in the last few days. I have had some projects on the computer so I sometimes forget to step away and get a pencil in my hand. I had forgotten how relaxing sketching in front of the TV or with the radio playing.

With CCSD06 coming up, I am working on some art of more mainstream comic characters for my portfolio. The Batman came out good the superman is not even there.

This page of drawings started with me working on sketches for a new BTGC character. Tracy is to be Kate friend from school and to be a contrast with her. While Kate is bookish and nerdy, Tracy is more wild and always thinking of partying and dating. Some of the sketches here are base on Betty Boop.

Here are some more faces. I always seem to have trouble with the eyes being out of balanced, so I am working on it.

10th international Sketchcrawl! Saturday July 1, 2006

I just received a reminder email about the International Sketch Crawl which will be on Saturday July 1, 2006. What is a Sketch Crawl you may ask? This is from founder Enrico Casarosa, a talented artist who lives and works in the San Francisco bay area:

The basic idea: to record nonstop everything I could around me with my pencil and watercolors. A drawn journal filled with details ranging from the all the coffee I drank to the different buses I took. After a whole day of drawing and walking around the city the name seemed quite fitting: “SketchCrawl” – a drawing marathon. ….
I soon figured out it was much more interesting to do the marathon with a group of artists instead of all by myself! And so SketchCrawl turned communal. After a whole day of drawing it proved to be amazingly interesting and inspiring to share and compare other people’s drawings and thoughts. Different takes on our surroundings, different details, different sensibilities.
The next step was making the SketchCrawl a World Wide event: having people from different corners of the world join in a day of sketching and journaling and then, thanks to the Internet, having everyone share the results on an online forum.

I am planning on going, so count me in. I love any chance to meet new people and draw a lot. Will I see you there? If not, I will post some of the work right here on the old blog.

Recent Projects…

I have been a busy beaver lately, so here is a re-cap of some of the projects I have done for clients lately.

First off the newest one: Ghost Crane from Golden Gate Universe Comics. The drawing is by Travis Trono and I provided digital coloring as well as the logo design. Click on the thumbnails below to view the front and back of the book.

Ghost Crane will be available at Comic-Con in San Diego this July.

I also worked on the Cover Coloring for Alexis E. Fajardo/Lexpress on the preview of Kid Beowulf and the Song of Roland.

To find out more about the creation of this piece, check out my previous post.

Kid Beowulf and the Song of Roland preview will also be available at Comic-Con in San Diego this July.

Also for Lexpress is Icarus, a new character based on the Greek myth. Alexis did the drawing at Wondercon’06 and I colored it with watercolors.

Lex has just posted more information about ICARUS on his BLOG, check it out!

Tiki Sea dark ride sketches

I love the idea of designing a dark ride at a theme park. Here are some sketches I did as a lark for a boat ride that would take you into a world of happy singing living Tikis. Think Small World with more of a world beat for the music.
