Shaenon’s Marvel Comic

Talented writer and artist, Shaenon Garrity has had her first story written for Marvel Comics out on news stands today. Congratulations Shaenon!

Heres the message I got from her husband, Andrew:

Just wanted to let everyone know that Shaenon’s first published story for MARVEL COMICS (the big time!) is in stores today. Call 1-888-COMIC-BOOK to find a shop near you. The comic stars the Fantastic Four in a special Christmas story featuring the very first super-villain that they ever fought in a comic called “Moleman’s Christmas.” Our friends Roger Langridge and Al Gordon provided the artwork.

Words AND Pictures

Work continues to extend my final issue(s) of the first BTGC story arc, and I have found that certain story pitfalls have appeared. How do you make the story move at the right pace, to flow?

The Answer: Words and Pictures. Like the story board for an animated feature or the Story Reel that gradually is transformed into the final movie. The good news is that more then half of the BTGC mock-up has been done. And I am very pleased so far. It is easier to make story corrections once you ping pong back and forth between a written script and a visual script.

Those attending Wondercon will be able to see a preview of the final work. That will be in February 2006.

I will be trying post samples throught the process.

One of kind of Cartoon Dolls

Many years ago I picked up the postcard at one of those racks that litter the hip bars and restaurants of San Francisco. I liked the drawing and held onto it.

Artist/Illustrator Michiko Stehrenberger makes one of kind dolls featuring her beautiful drawing style. Some really amazing stuff to look at.

she also makes cartoon pet portrait dolls as well.

Enya’s new tongue

Singer Enya has three songs on her New album, “Amarantine,” sung in the language Loxian. The singer was inspired by her singing work on the Lord of the Rings movies. The language even has a back story and history.

The Dalkey-based singer also rejected Gaelic and Latin, both of which she used on previous records. So a quarter of the songs on Amarantine, her new album, are in a tongue called Loxian, which she devised with her lyricist Roma Ryan.

The impetus for the new language came from Enya and Roma’s work on songs for the first film in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. May it Be, the theme tune, and Aniron, a love song, both featured Elvish, languages invented by author JRR Tolkien. “I suppose it goes back to working on Lord of the Rings, which was a fantastic project,” said Enya.

Words vs. Pictures

In my quest to bring you a more detailed, longer version of Beyond the Great Chimney, I have hit a snag. I have tired to write a script, but got into a rut, so the last few days I decided to draw out what I have and…

Its been great. I have worked out certain issues in the script, but now I can re-translat the story into pictures, a form I am more comfortable with.

Some of the drawings are really good. And the ones that are not hold a lot of gesture and personality. I am very happy.

Happy Thanksgiving!

As we sit down to eat a delicious meal of turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and of course PIE; we need to remember what we are thankful for this year: for good friends, , for family, for art, for love, for adventure, for beautiful weather, for connecting with our fellow man, and for those who strive for peace.

Also, our thoughts go out to those who have less this year due to hearthship and loss. The victims of hurricane Katrina, our brave women and men in the armed forces, as well as those who simply can not afford to see their family.

Today is a good day for all of us to think about what where thankful for. To remember our values and goals. To celebrate the best in human nature.

All of us at Atomic Bear Press want to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving.
