Flame-a-Corn

This was based on a suggestion of one of my students, combine a Unicorn and a fiery Phoenix. Painted in gouche.

  1. That’s pretty cool; love the fish-thing!

Have you thought of painting on toned paper? I could imagine that’d work really well with your coloring.

    Thanks Astrid.

When you say toned, are you speaking of putting a wash down first of tone, or buying it that way?

  3. I think either could give interesting result. I suppose when you put down a wash you’re more flexible with the color. But both work fine. I used to do a lot of sketching and calligraphy on brown wrapping paper (mostly because it was cheap, but I also liked the effect), and other colored paper of every shade.

I think I will give it a try. I am doing a pro-bono piece that will have gradual tone washes first and then the details on top.
