I wanted to do a shout out-to friend and fellow teacher Mike Scagliotti who has just self published an intriguing new comic “Rain that Wants to be Snow.” The comic features three short stories about three different characters: Quigley, Loretta, and Trevor who all explore a world where dreams and reality are seperated by a thin line. In Quigley’s story he says in a voice-over,
It’s not so much a place inside a city, as it is a place inside people’s dreams. Thats why I moved here. I want to live inside of people’s dream.
As he walks through a city strange pigs and vegetables float in the sky, insect drive trucks, and horsemen ride through the street. This is the most excentric world Mike has drawn where in the other two stories it is more subtle. In the second story Loretta has moved back home with her parents and dreams of flying over a landscape that transforms and changes and the would-be musician Trevor goes to sleep and his sideways view of his furniture fall “down” and remain even when the scene is right side up.
The book is short (10 pages), but I think it’s worth a look if you see it at a Bay Area comic book store. I am looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here.
