New Art! Robot Detective Kenji

Robot Detective Kenji 2011

I guess posting 6 images of rabbits 6 days in a row is enough and it’s time for something a little different. I love the ‘silly’ yet so retro cool Japanese Metal Hero Robot Detective K from a 1973 TV show. How many robots can wear a bright red blazer and yellow cap with so much style.

I have drawn Robot Detective Kenji before, but just realized that the images posted here had gotten lost when the website was upgraded a few years ago since the drawings are from 2008. Here they are.

NEW art from Dr Sketchys SF – SUPER BABES!

Last night was another Dr. Sketchys here in San Francisco and it featured cosplayer Quicksilver modeling as both Black Cat from Marvel Comics and Zatanna from DC Comics. It was a lot of fun. And I finally won the grand prize (well there were 2 of us) which was a nice Watercolor Sketchbook, paints, micron and a brush. Next month they are planning two sessions since the popularity has sky rocked in the last year. You can find out more on the official site HERE.

Here are some of my favorite drawings…

new art: Bizarro

Bizarro (DC Comics)

Bizarro is a bizarre, imperfect copy of Superman. He is everything that Superman is not–literally. Every thing Bizarro does is deliberately backwards or the opposite of normal.

– from www.comicvine.com/bizarro/29-8312/

I love the character since he can be categorized as a villain in the DC Superhero universe, but he really is just dumb and crazy. I have seen him treated more like an anti-hero recently, where in a recent SuperGirl comic he was trying to communicate with her more clearly. He’s the kind of character I see as a weird hero and a failure of a super villain.

The drawing was done at the last Cartoonist Conspiracy SF meet with a Pentel Pocket Brush Pen and then scanned and colored in Photoshop. I am happy with how some of the texture on his faces came out.

new art: Modok

Modok (Marvel Comics)

M.O.D.O.K. is an acronym for Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing. He has a plethora of psychic powers, which he used to take control of AIM.

from http://www.comicvine.com/modok/29-3709/

Modok is one of those weird Marvel Comic villains that hearkens back to the days when things did not have to be so serious or ‘cool’. In many ways he seems like he would better fit with the weird villains from DC Comics. He is usually drawn with glowing pupils-less eyes, but I did not realized that at the time. Of course you get better acting when the eye pupils are seen anyways.

The drawing was done at a Cartoonist Conspiracy SF comic jam with the Pentel Pocket Brush Pen and then scanned and colored in Photoshop.

Modok is a huge fan favorite with many art collectors commission industry artist to draw him. For example, take the art collection of Kasra Ghanbari. They have 16 themed galleries with Modok artwork. There is some great stuff, so check it out.

Happy 41st birthday, Haunted Mansion!

The Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland just turned 41 and to celebrate I thought I would post some fan art inspired by the attraction.

There is an event in Anaheim held by the 1313 clube that I wished I was going too next week called the Marvelous Mechanized Magic Kingdom.  They will have on displays actual Animatronics from Disney themeparks as well as have speakers like actor Neil Patrick Harris, designer of the monorail Bob Gurr, the voice of Wendy and Alice Kathryn Beaumont, costume designer for Pirates and Small World Alice Davis, script and song writer Xavier Atencio (‘grim grinning ghosts’), animator/artist Floyd Norman, Garner Holt
who’s company does all of Disney’s ride animatronics now, ride concept artist Larry Nikolai, Chef Mayhem of DoomBuggies.com, and many more.

Find out more at: http://the1313club.com/Main_Page.html

OK, now onto the art….
