On Tuesday night I went again to Dr. Sketchys in San Francisco to draw model Dottie Luz. Here are most of the drawings I created. The last one was colored after-the-fact in Photoshop.

The guy in the example below was an art sample to show my students in my Heroes and Villains class I taught at Chabot College this summer. The drawing was brought into Photoshop and color has been added, but is not finished, so it’s a Work in Progress (WIP).
His design is made up of some elements that are borrowed from two well knows characters. Do you know who they are?
Be the first to comment correctly and I will send you a free sketch of a character of your choosing.

This is my artwork I created to celebrate DC Comics 75th anniversary for the San Diego Comic-Con program book. A friend just texted me that she picked up one (Karen you rock!) and it’s on page 107. I really appreciated her picking me up a book since I can’t make it to the con this year.
I decided to focus on the supporting characters that are part of the DC comics mythology.
Exciting.

Out of the night,
When the full moon is bright,
Comes the horseman known as Zorro.
This bold renegade
Carves a “Z” with his blade,
A “Z” that stands for Zorro.Zorro, Zorro, the fox so cunning and free,
Zorro, Zorro, who makes the sign of the Z.

I almost forgot about my Dr. Sketchys SF drawings from March 2010. The models were the most interesting ladies delving out their own brand of community service. Their the Sisters of the Perpetual Indulgence, and they are the fabulous drag nuns of San Francisco. These ladies were really fun to draw from their pale powdered skin and striking mustaches to their sparkly eye lashes. We even had a contest to draw them with a superhero theme.
Click on the pictures to see them bigger on flickr.
“The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence® is a leading-edge Order of queer nuns. Since our first appearance in San Francisco on Easter Sunday, 1979, the Sisters have devoted ourselves to community service, ministry and outreach to those on the edges, and to promoting human rights, respect for diversity and spiritual enlightenment. We believe all people have a right to express their unique joy and beauty and we use humor and irreverent wit to expose the forces of bigotry, complacency and guilt that chain the human spirit.”
and my contest entry that I did not enter…long story. I thought the gals would love to have famous superhero’s having crushes on them. Since this and another design were drawn in my sketchbook I could not show them both and I picked another one. This one would have had a better chance to win the contest.

This past Tuesday I attended this month’s Dr. Sketchy’s SF life drawing session at 111 Minna gallery. This sessions models were the ladies of publicbikes.com. Click for a bigger image.
There was…. “Meli Burgueño, lovely blogger of bikesandthecity.blogspot.com/”
and “Constance Cavallas, awesome builder of Pelicans and wheel lacer”
and “Amanda Lanker, fearless leader of the Pushbike Ladies Ride”
The drawing contest this time was two 20 min drawings of the girls moving furniture with their bikes. I did two with one of them (the one with Color) winning a consolation prize. This is my 4th win. Ahead of me was a cool drawings done on the iPad and the winner was by my friend George Webber.
Here is mine…
