Watercolor to Digital color studies.

In one of my teaching gig’s I get to do some art myself and have been doing some small watercolor landscapes (here and here) that could be color studies for a bigger future project. After scanning them in to the computer, I thought I would see if I could do a super simple digital version with colors taken directly from the watercolors.

new art: Bizarro

Bizarro (DC Comics)

Bizarro is a bizarre, imperfect copy of Superman. He is everything that Superman is not–literally. Every thing Bizarro does is deliberately backwards or the opposite of normal.

– from www.comicvine.com/bizarro/29-8312/

I love the character since he can be categorized as a villain in the DC Superhero universe, but he really is just dumb and crazy. I have seen him treated more like an anti-hero recently, where in a recent SuperGirl comic he was trying to communicate with her more clearly. He’s the kind of character I see as a weird hero and a failure of a super villain.

The drawing was done at the last Cartoonist Conspiracy SF meet with a Pentel Pocket Brush Pen and then scanned and colored in Photoshop. I am happy with how some of the texture on his faces came out.

new art: Modok

Modok (Marvel Comics)

M.O.D.O.K. is an acronym for Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing. He has a plethora of psychic powers, which he used to take control of AIM.

from http://www.comicvine.com/modok/29-3709/

Modok is one of those weird Marvel Comic villains that hearkens back to the days when things did not have to be so serious or ‘cool’. In many ways he seems like he would better fit with the weird villains from DC Comics. He is usually drawn with glowing pupils-less eyes, but I did not realized that at the time. Of course you get better acting when the eye pupils are seen anyways.

The drawing was done at a Cartoonist Conspiracy SF comic jam with the Pentel Pocket Brush Pen and then scanned and colored in Photoshop.

Modok is a huge fan favorite with many art collectors commission industry artist to draw him. For example, take the art collection of Kasra Ghanbari. They have 16 themed galleries with Modok artwork. There is some great stuff, so check it out.
