Kid’s Holiday Art

The last Kid’s drop-in class of 2006 at the CAM was yesterday. They learned how to draw a turkey and a Santa Claus. Here is some of the final results they created for one of kind Christmas cards. (I had some turkeys too, but did not get a chance to take some pictures of them)

Learn new things about me (or I have been TAGGED!)

I have been TAGGED by Peggy @ The Road Less Traveled blog to share five things that people might not know about me. I hope I don’t embarrass myself.

1) I took swing dancing classes on a regular basis for a year and a half.

A friend of mine took me into San Francisco to try swing dancing. I loved it and learned a lot. But as the fad died down, the crowds got smaller and became more clickish, and I stopped going. I want to start going again in 2007. It is such a wonderful social dance and we need more activities where we work together instead of showing off by ourself. Plus you get to meet classy gals.

2) I was “Bobby the Toy Solider at FAO Shwarz in San Francisco. I was last Toy Solider before the store/company went out of business. One of the best jobs I have ever had. I gained a lot of confidence and took responsibility for representing the store. I loved making peoples day and seeing them smile. It’s amazing how wearing a costume can change how you act and are.

Today I saw the old building is finally going to be a new store after many years of vacancy.

3) I enjoy cooking (and eating).

Cooking is a challenge I take at least once or twice a week. I love trying to invent new tastes and to create something out of nothing. I don’t worry about buying new food, I like to see what I can do with whats in the house.

4) I worked at Alcatraz Island for a month last summer (2004).

I was the guy who made sure that boats left on time and that the passengers did not dawdle. I also drove a tram for those with mobility issues to the top of a steep hill. Alcatraz might have some of the most beautiful views (sans the fog) of San Francisco.

5) Peggy(who tagged me) at the Road Less Traveled blog and Biology in Science Fiction blog is my sister.

My sister is smart, clever, kind, and a person I am proud to be related to. Check out her blogs.

So I guess I am suppose to tag five other folks. Supposedly the idea of this exercises is to bring new folks to your blog. Don’t hate me.

Lex @ the Lexpress News and Notes
Christina @ Leadpoint comics blog
Adam Abrams @ his personal site/blog
Andrew Farago’s live journal

Link: Toby Bluth

Toby Bluth is a talented cartoonist and painter who has contributed to animated films, children’s books and stage design. He is also the brother of animation director Don Bluth.

I really like his watercolor work. They have a delicate story book look and feel to them that give a dream like impression. The character work has a retro feel to it that reminds me of the same vibe the characters in Lilo and Stich had. Chubby stubby limbs and round faces.

Check out his concept/background work from Mickey Mouse/The Three Musketeers.

Art: Knight (silicon 05) revisited in color

A test to see how it would look to add color to a black/white ink/paint drawing on the computer. The colors on this one are a bit washed out. Need to find a way to fix that in Photoshop.

I created the art originally at Silicon 2005.

Your thoughts?
