The Hamster who wasn’t there – available on Valencia St.

I have a page in this Cartoonist Conspiracy book, the Hamster that was not there. I just saw this copy hanging in the window of a book store – Dog Eared Books at 900 Valencia St – San Francisco, CA (415) 282-1901. This new edition that Doc put together is pretty slick. Pick up a copy and see what happens when artist jam.

BTGC graphic novel update 5-2-06

Well I have done mockup for the new chapter #1 of the Beyond the Great Chimney graphic novel. Working from some feedback I got from my peers I have re-worked it. So far I feel like it is going in the right direction, but I am waiting till I finish the mockup of Chapter #2 before I show it to anyone. The voice changes a bit from each one and I want to see if they work together. Chapter 1 has a “once upon a time” narration, but then breaks into actual scenes that are out side of the story being told. This small image below is the page where 3 travelers stop to ask directions and meet Victor (age 8) and his mother.

Chapter 2 is about 1/4 of the way done in the manuscript form. The story picks up 25 years later as we find Victor Grassroot talking to his Grandfather (just a voice, we don’t see him till later). This scene sets up who our hero is and his close relationship to his uncle.

This material might change by the final story. Once I finish the manuscript I will begin on the final are for the first two chapters. I hope to post finished pages for you all to read when I am further along.

Karen Luk/Paper Dragon Press blog

My friend Karen Luk has a NEW blog, Paper Dragon Press, that features her sketches, drawings and illustrations. She post images from the Sketch Crawl (that I missed again) as well as some great watercolors. Makes me want to go out and paint.

I perticularly like her CatFishBatShark creature she created. Maybe she will let me do a n illustration of it.

Robot Fury at the Schulz Museum

My bud, Alexis Fajardo has posted a cool drawing on his Lexpress Production Blog of the Robot (Nick) Fury. Lex will be teaching a week long class at the Charles Schulz Museum this summer and tagged along when I taught mine there two weeks ago. The kid’s loved watching him draw along with them on a Superhero Name challenge. He also teaches cartooning classes at Artsake in San Francisco CA.

Here Lex works with a pair of talented young girls at the Schulz Museum.
