Bone Emmy Award

On the website, thesculptorscorner.com there is a statue that shows Fone Bone, from the the comic “Bone” by Jeff Smith, in a spoof of the emmy award. This was created for the Cartoon Network last year (2005) The statue is sculpted by Ruben Procopio who’s previous work includes maquettes for animated features as well as statues for Electric Tiki design.

I am a big fan of Jeff Smiths work. Any ideas on the purpose of this statue? Anyone?

Comics 4 Comix – Art and Graphics

Here is the graphic work I did for the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco for their COMICS to COMIX event. The fundraiser of stand-up comedy coincides with Wondercon next month.

I took the current logo and recreated it in Adobe Illustrator. I then did the layout for an ad that will appear in the Wondercon program.

WILL EISNER: A SPIRITED LIFE – Talk and Slideshow

I just got a heads-up from the NC-NCS about a talk by author Bob Andelman. He has written a new book about one of the most talented, amazing, and important figures in comics: Will Eisner. The new biography is “Will Eisner: a Spirited Life” and he will be giving a slideshow/talk at the Cartoon Art Museum on Feb 2, 2006.

Dark Horse’s prose imprint M Press is proud to present a new biography on one of comics’ true legends, Will Eisner. Will Eisner: A Spirited Life is the only authorized and extensively researched biography of Eisner over three years in the making. Chock full of entertaining anecdotes told by the comic industry’s top talents, A Spirited Life pays tribute to a true American original whose legacy will forever be felt not only in comic books and graphic novels but in commercial illustration, fine art, film, television and multimedia.

New Pewfell!

I recieved an email from Chuck Whelon, writer and artist of the fantasy on-line comic, Pewfell. Pewfell is the story of slacker wizard and his friends and enemys. Chuck and Adam tell a story set in a funny fantasy world. Definitly worth checking out.

Chuck writes:

At long last Pewfell is updating again. Last year Adam Prosser & I succeeded in taking the strip’s art & writing to a whole new level, but updates were admittedly a bit spotty, so our resolution for this year is regular weekly updates. We’re kicking off with an all-new 4 page introduction to the current epic (Pewfell Volume 5: Green Achers).

Sylvain Chomet’s ‘The Illusionist’

I scanned these images from the current issue of Esquire magazine. They’re from an upcoming movie, ‘The Illusionist.’ Sylvain Chomet created the amazing animated film, Triplets of Belleville. Since there is so little 2D feature animation out there, and when its this good, it should be seen.

Mr. Chomet, how about a blog for us to read, or a website for the film?

“An aging magician who befriends a girl in scotland and can’t bear
to tell her that his magic is not real”

Really beautiful drawings above.
