Remebering Joe Grant

Yesterday, Friday May 6, 2005, Disney legend Joe Grant passed away. Grant had worked at Disney for most of his adult life, brining animation, color styling and concepts to films like Beauty and the Beat, Snow White, and Pocahontas (that was released on DVD last week). He also created the concept for the short Lorenzo.

"The Animation Podcast"

Check out a new website, Animation Podcast.com (http://www.animationpodcast.com/) , that offers a podcast (mp3) interview with Disney Animator, Andreas Deja (animator of: Jafar, Gaston, Scar, Hercules, Lilo, Mickey Mouse)

At this time, the rumor is that Deja has refused to do computer animation, and still has a contract with Disney.

One to keep an eye on for sure!

Animation at the Bedford Gallery

On Sunday (5-1-05) I did a hands-on demonstration for the Bedford Gallery Family Day.

Using Boinx iStopMotion on a mac laptop and a digital video camera, we produced 1 min of animation in about 2.5 hours. That’s pretty good for animation.

Here is the set-up. The nice thing about iStopMotion it provides a ghost of the last frame taken so you know the difference from the last and current positions. They also have an onion skin feature, where you can see multiple frames, but we did not use that feature. The program is excellent, and only cost $40 for the basic version.

It was easy to save the movie as a DV stream and import it into iMovie where titles where added.

I would like to use the program again some time.
