BTGC #2 HAS ARRIVED!!!

ANNOUNCING
Beyond the Great Chimney #2
is HERE!

Today I became the proud parents of many children, all identical. Here they are….

Oh, aren’t they just so adorable with their glossy red covers and wonderment inside. But, alas, they need to find good homes. I am not parent enough to raise all of them. So….how about giving an issue of Beyond the Great Chimney #2 a good home. They are house broken and lots of fun.

For $3.95 ($5.95 can) you get 32 pages of fully painted black and white artwork. And their for all ages, so they play well with others.

If you would like to take one home head on over HERE, and use PayPalâ„¢ to adopted one today. Each book comes with an original sketch by me, the man who…sniff…brought them into….sniff….the world. I guess all parents must set there children free at sometime.

Christopher Merritt-Imagineer

Chritopher Merritt has been working in themed design since 1995. He has worked on everything from Tokyo Disneyland’s Disney Seas to Mechanical Dinosaurs. His site is filled with all sorts of amazing sketches and designs, some built and some not built. I love his portfolio sketch for a purposed Nightmare Before Christmas Ride especially. A very talented man.

BTGC #2 & #3 update

Well folks I am happy to say that Issue #2 is on track for APE 2005 in two weeks. As long as the Comic Book gods are not un-happy with me, I should have books for sale at the convention.

As for issue #3 of Beyond the Great Chimney, I just finished the first ‘complete working draft’ of the book. To explain, here is my process of creating a book:

a) have a rough idea of the story I am telling. I am on part 3 of 3 so it’s pretty easy to guess where I am going with it.
b) thumb-nail out different options for telling the story in my sketch book.
c) I sit down at the computer and write the first draft of the script. This is where I usually find story points that I need to make sure are covered.
d) I sit down with the thumbnails and draw out a full size rough visual script of the whole comic book.
e) I use Adobe Photoshop to scan in the pages and import them into Adobe InDesign. There I go though and add the script. This is an important stage since I found that for me, a professional looking script helps me recognize the errors.
f) at the point I usually have found that certain parts are lacking and the pages are either digitally edited or completely re-drawn, I also re-write the dialog to fix errors that could not be seen when the elements where separate.
g) send out the book to a handful of trusted friends to help make sure that I am achieving what I want to achieve.

I am at step (g) right now. Which means it’s time to read it over for any missing story elements that are not covered.

I have found that I notice errors with a semi professional look test print vs. something that looks like it’s still not done. It’s something to do with how our mind works I guess. I also discovered I find errors best when I am on a plane or BART. Something to do with not being a) not at home b) not responsible for driving c) having nowhere to go.

If any artist want to COMMENT on how they work, please do.

Aluminum Foil Deflector Beanie

As a mystery commenter on my last post mentioned, one reason the Aliens have slowed down the process of getting the new Atomic Bear Press website up is that I was not wearing my Aluminum Foil Deflector Beanie. Here is a site that tells you how to make one. LINK

Anyone else have any ideas on how to protect agenst little green men?

Aliens attack artist, new website gets delayed!

I am so sorry, but I had to fend off 20 alien crafts that landed and attacked my studio. I tried to tell them that I had a website to get up right away this morning, but they pointed the eisneratorâ„¢ at my head and told me that I would not be able to upload it till 11pm on Friday March 25, 2005. Then they left me alone with some weird metal thing stuck in my ear. So I decided that I should follow what they say or they might destroy my comic books.

So it looks like the new site will be up this night. Stay tuned!
